Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, said, "Zigana Tunnel is one of the longest tunnels in Europe as a double-tube tunnel." said.


Minister Karaismailoğlu made examinations at Erdoğdu and Boztepe connections of the Kanuni Boulevard road, which is under construction in Trabzon, and visited the construction sites.

Later, Karaismailoğlu, who went to the new Zigana Tunnel construction site, received information about the works.

Karaismailoğlu said in a statement he made to the journalists that they made observations about the activities of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in Trabzon throughout the day.

Karaismailoğlu stated that they have 22 ongoing projects throughout the city, and that they are making great efforts to realize them as soon as possible, and that they have overhauled their work programs in this direction.

Minister Karaismailoğlu, stating that they made an investigation on Kanuni Boulevard, said, “It is a very important project that can be an alternative for Trabzon city center and Trabzon Coastal Road. Although it took a long time, we opened certain parts to traffic, it contributed a little to city traffic. Hopefully, when we finish the Kanuni Boulevard in a short time, there will be an alternative city pass to Trabzon. " said.

Emphasizing that Kanuni Boulevard is an important project that will improve the quality of life in Trabzon and relieve the traffic of Trabzon, Karaismailoğlu said, “The main reason for the extension of the project is expropriation problems. Our friends work with great devotion there, too. Hopefully, we will soon finish the expropriation problems and put Kanuni Boulevard into service and put into service a project that adds value to Trabzon. " he spoke.

Noting that the Zigana Tunnel consists of a 10-kilometer double tunnel on a road axis of 15-14,5 kilometers, Karaismailoğlu continued as follows:

“As a double tube tunnel, it is one of the longest tunnels in Europe. One of the largest projects in the world, a very special project as a double tube tunnel in the highway inventory, with ventilation systems and construction techniques. We always say, "We are doing projects that the world looks envy." Zigana Tunnel is one of them. The project that will add great value to the region when we are finished. In fact, the Zigana Tunnel is just one of the tunnels that complete an axis at a distance of 300 kilometers between Trabzon and Erzurum.

Karaismailoğlu drew attention to the intense work being carried out on the Zigana Tunnel between Gümüşhane and Trabzon, the Vauk Tunnel between Gümüşhane and Bayburt and the Kop Mountain tunnels between Bayburt and Erzurum.

Karaismailoğlu stated that when the Zigana Tunnel is finished, it will be a tunnel between Erzurum and Trabzon, which is of great importance both as a logistics corridor and in terms of transportation, “As one of the world's most important and largest tunnels, it will provide great services to the region. Stating that the Zigana Tunnel was on the agenda 30 years ago, Karaismailoğlu stated that the construction of the 1,7-kilometer tunnel took years, and when the construction was completed, it was opened in a holiday atmosphere.

Karaismailoğlu said that they are now in an effort to put the 14,5-kilometer tunnel into service, and that they aim to open the tunnel at this time of 2022.

Karaismailoğlu, stating that there have been great developments in the country under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the last 18 years, said:

“To give just two examples of these, we increased the length of the divided road to 2 thousand kilometers. Likewise, we increased the divided roads of 28 kilometers and 50 kilometers to 40 kilometers in Trabzon. When we even compare them, our country has made a great breakthrough in the last 240 years. Minister Karaismailoğlu, when asked about the completion rate of the new Zigana Tunnel construction, said, “It is 50 percent upon opening of the whole but 70 percent on the tunnels.
