The launching ceremony of the 'Let's Turn Pedals in the Black Sea' project, which is entitled to receive support from the European Union within the scope of the Black Sea Basin Cross-Border Cooperation Program of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, was held in Sunflower Bicycle Valley. In the program where the European Mobility Week events were started with the theme of 'Zero Emission Mobility for All', SUBU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sarıbıyık, Youth and Sports Provincial Director Arif Özsoy, Sakaryaspor Club President Cevat Ekşi, district mayors, bureaucrats, NGO representatives and press members were present. You know, only 12 cities in the world have the title of "Bicycle Friendly City". As Sakarya, we aspire to become the thirteenth Bicycle Friendly City. We have provided all the necessary conditions in this regard. We are about to fulfill a final or two criteria. After all this, we hope that our Sakarya will be the thirteenth bicycle-friendly city in the world ”.

The target is 307 kilometers of bike path

Mayor Yüce said, “We are implementing projects that will highlight the characteristics of our city. We're building bike lanes. We currently have a total of 68 kilometers of bicycle path. Our goal is a 307-kilometer bicycle path. From here, we are building a bicycle path from Sunflower Bicycle Valley to Sapanca shores. The road consists of three stages in total. We have completed the first stage, from here to the Summer Crossroad. We also expect approval from the ministry for the parts from the Summer Crossroad to Sapanca shores, ”he said.

Speaking about the intense use of SAKBIS, Mayor Yüce said, “All of our bicycles in smart stations integrated into our bicycle paths spread throughout the city were allocated for the use of our citizens. "We will carry our city to a stronger position in cycling with a project that will improve bicycle tourism and inter-country dialogue within the scope of the Black Sea Basin Cross-Border Cooperation Program funded by the European Union."

Bicycle routes will be transferred to the international platform

Mayor Ekrem Yüce said, “The bicycle routes to be created in Sakarya within the scope of the project will be positioned on a digital map and transferred to the international platform. Trainings on entrepreneurs, accommodation facilities, agencies, restaurants, communication and promotion and pedal-friendly business will be given to the operators in the field of tourism in the city. In addition, a digital platform will be created with project partners Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia in order to promote the tourism destination and bicycle routes in the city, and bicycle mobile applications will be prepared. In the project where bicycle tour programs for national and international tour operators will be prepared, a festival related to bicycle and bicycle tourism will also be held. On this occasion, I hope the European Mobility Week activities and the Let's Pedal in the Black Sea Project will be beneficial ”.
