EIA Approval for the Facility That Will Generate Electricity From The Wastes Of 4 Districts In İzmir!

Approval has been received for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the facility that will generate electricity from the domestic wastes of Bergama, Dikili, Kınık and Aliağa districts. In the facility, which is planned to be put into service this year, both electricity will be obtained and the compost produced will be used as soil improver.


The Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility project, which was prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in 2011 in order to improve the Regular Solid Waste Storage Facility area, recycle the waste and establish a facility that generates electricity from the waste, has been approved. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report prepared for the project was approved by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. On April 16, a pre-license was obtained from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA).

Will not harm the nature

The wastes separated in the Bergama Solid Waste Management Facility, where the domestic wastes of four districts will be evaluated, and the mechanical separation unit will provide raw materials to the recycling sector. In addition to energy, compost will be obtained from the organic wastes directed to the biomethanization unit to be used as soil improver.

It will generate electricity from garbage

Wastes that cannot be processed in the separation and biomethanization units will be kept in the landfills. The methane gas generated in the storage area and the methane gas coming from the biomethanization reactors will be purified and directed to the gas engines. The electrical energy generated in the Electric Energy Generation Facility will be used both at the facility and directly transferred to the distribution network.

The facility will meet the electrical energy needs of approximately 14 thousand households.
