Central Anatolian Development Agency (ORAN), one of the 26 development agencies undertaking local development projects under the Ministry of Industry and Technology, will establish a “Kangal Dog Production, Training and Protection Center” in Sivas, where all the opportunities of technology are used. In the center planned on a 43 decare land, the genetics of purebred coils will be taken under protection. Coils to be grown in the center will be tracked by chip and family trees will be removed. 400 registered pedigree coils will be produced each year in the center, which will contribute significantly to the development of the region. The center is planned to open in 2021.

POWER UNION OF LOCAL DYNAMICS

The Central Anatolian Development Agency ORAN, which operates under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology Development Agencies General Directorate, took action to protect the Kangal Dog breed. In line with this goal, ORAN has joined forces with local dynamics and launched a new project with Sivas Provincial Administration, Cumhuriyet University, Kangal Village Service Union and Sivas Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.

7 MILLION TL PROJECT

With this project, Kangal Dog Production, Training and Protection Center will be established on a land of approximately 43 decares in Çelebiler Village Meraküm location of Sivas center. ORAN will cover 7 percent of the cost of the project with a budget of 75 million TL.

FOLLOW-UP

The most important function of the center will be the production of purebred coiled dogs and the protection of their genes. Breeding coils will be followed by chip. The chips to be placed under the skin will contain information such as the date of birth of the coils, the name of the mother and father, what kind of diseases they have. If the animals are lost, their follow-up will take place thanks to this chip.

IT WILL BE IDENTITY CARDS

In the center, pedigree of the coils will be removed. Every dog ​​produced will have an identification card. Thus, the race of the coiled dog and the purity, control and reporting of the purity of this breed will be provided. In the center, studies on genetic diversity will be conducted and long-term observation opportunities will be provided to academics who want to conduct research.

INCREASE VALUE FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

International shows will be organized in the center, which includes all kinds of equipment, has training areas, and will also provide veterinary services. The center is expected to contribute to city tourism. Those who will come to the region for the purpose of visiting the center; It will revive the local economy with activities such as accommodation, food and beverage, shopping and souvenirs. It will create added value for regional development.

FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

The financial sustainability of the center will be ensured together with offspring sales and other income. In the first place, 13 people will be employed in the center to undertake tasks such as veterinarians, laboratory staff, and expert dog keepers.

At the first stage, in the center with a capacity of 80 dogs, 60 of the 20 breeder coils will be males and 60 females. Puppies will be able to be owned on the website after completing their second month. The capacity of the center will increase to 2 later.

ORAN Secretary General Ahmet Emin Kilci, explaining that coils are the most successful species known in the world in terms of herd management, “We will support a kind of ovine breeding thanks to this center. Cumhuriyet University Kangal Dog Research and Training Center Manager Assoc. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Oğrak stated that he has been working on coils for 30 years as a veterinarian and said, “According to the observations we made, there can be up to 80 percent deaths in each birth. In particular, deaths due to lack of necessary vaccines for puppies are one of the biggest problems. Thanks to this project, studies will be carried out to vaccinate all dogs. ” said.
