China Launches Optical Remote Sensing Satellite

A new optical remote sensing satellite was successfully launched today at 10.27 local time from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China.

The satellite named Gaofen-9 05 will mainly be used in the fields of nationwide land survey, urban planning, land area calculation, road design, crop harvest estimation, disaster prevention and mitigation. The satellite is also expected to provide information for projects such as the construction of "Belt and Road".

In the last launch with the Long Walk-2D carrier rocket, Gaofen-9 05, a multi-functional test satellite and another satellite named Tiantuo-5 were launched into space.

With the last launch, the Long Walk rocket family completed its 343rd mission.
