Alstom Prima T8 AZ8A freight locomotives have started tests to be used on their main line. The power lines used in the test are the lines converted from 3kV DC to 25kV AC from the old Russian system and operated by the Azerbaijan Railway AZD.

In 2014, ADY bought 50 electric locomotives. Among the locomotives provided by the consortium, including Alstom, there were 40 Prima T8 AZ8A heavy-load locomotives and 10 Prima M4 AZ4A passenger transport locomotives. Prima T8 AZ8A locomotives are also used in Kazakhstan.
Alstom Prima T8 is one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world. This model is a 9.000 tons per axle Two-Section freight locomotive that can tow up to 8.8 tons and can operate at a speed of 120 km / h with a continuous power of 25 Megawatts. The AZ8A is designed to operate in temperatures from -25 ° C to 50 ° C. It requires minimal maintenance and its modular design ensures high levels of reliability and low life cycle costs.
