KOBİS Became the Transport Vehicle of Pandemic Process in Kocaeli

The Kocaeli Smart Bike System “SME” project, launched by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality in 2014, serves in 12 districts. Consisting of 71 smart bikes in 520 stations, SME became the most preferred means of transportation after the pandemic process.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT SME

Kocaeli SME Bicycle System "SME" was established in 2014 to facilitate access to the city, to create intermediate opportunities that nurture public transportation systems, and to encourage the use of an environmental and sustainable means of transportation. KOBIS, which has been used for 6 years, became the number one means of transportation for citizens after the pandemic process.

750 THOUSAND RENTAL

Serving with 71 stations, 864 smart parking units and 520 smart bicycles, KOBİS has 140 thousand members. Since 2014, when the SME was put into service, there were 750 thousand 382 rentals and 46 million 742 thousand minutes of bicycle use.

TRANSPORTATION TO THE PANDEMIC PROCESS

Serving by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department, KOBİS became the most preferred means of transportation after the pandemic process. With the normalization steps taken after the pandemic process, 4 thousand 540 bicycles were rented in KOBIS. After the pandemic process, citizens used 275 thousand minutes of bicycles for transportation.

INCREASE IN BICYCLE USE

Looking at the SME data, the rate of bicycle use has increased compared to the previous years. Looking at the data of June and July of SME in 2019, an increase of 22% was observed in June compared to the previous year and 37% in July compared to the previous year. In June 2020, 23 thousand bicycles were rented at KOBIS stations and 29 thousand in July. With these leases, citizens made 1 million 811 thousand 621 minutes of bicycle use.
