Tōkaidō Shinkansen Railway

With the completion of the high speed line between Tokyo and Osaka, the travel time halved started a new era in train travels.

Opened just before the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Shinkansen (which means “new line” in Japanese) could reach 200 km / h. The pioneering bullet train became a symbol of industrial strength during Japan's post-war reconstruction, and showed that high-speed rail could be a commercial success, carrying 100 million passengers in the first three years. The parts that do not have straight transitions and sharp slopes, specially produced for Tōkaidō Shinkansen, set an example for high-speed railway projects all over the world in the future.
