In the study conducted between March 20 and April 13, 2020, metropolitans were examined under seven main titles. In the report, the study also included the number of cases and deaths in these cities. In the COVID-19 Talks seminar series initiated by the Institute Istanbul, the experts on the economic, social and political problems caused by the epidemic are evaluated.

In the face of the coronavirus epidemic, the Institute Istanbul, which examines and reports the struggles that have emerged in the world and the measures taken by the local administrations, will follow the process continuously and announce its evaluations to the public at certain intervals.

The website, which is put into service today, aims to provide bases that will guide the policies to be created for Istanbul. It will also contribute to the livelihood of public debates on a scientific basis, and the expansion of the areas of thought and experience sharing.

COVID-19 Talks Started

The Institute Istanbul also closely follows the worldwide scientific literature on social, economic and political problems caused by coronavirus beyond countless patients and mass deaths. Discussions in the context of COVID-19 have been moved to the video seminar series COVID-19 Talks with experts from different disciplines.

The first of the series of speeches in which the epidemic will be dealt with in different dimensions was realized on the economic results created by the epidemic with economist-writer Mustafa Sönmez. The second guest was Psychiatrist Cemal Dindar, who talked about the socio-psychological effects of the epidemic.

Institute Istanbul has worked on what kind of practices local governments have developed and taken measures in the major metropolises of the world in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak. In the first stage, London, Paris, New York, Berlin, Moscow, Tokyo, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Rome, Washington, Seoul, Geneva and Zurich were examined. The websites and digital resources of the relevant local governments were quickly scanned by the Istanbul researchers and the summary information was compiled.

The studies were handled under seven headings: Public Information Activities, Current Municipal Services, Limitations and Prohibitions, Practices for Fragile / Risky Groups, Support for Social Life at Home, Morale and Educational Practices, Social Policy Practices and Health Studies.
