Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer became the guest of Emine Eroğlan in the program named “From Mediterranean to Taurus” broadcast on TRT Çukurova Radio. Mayor Seçer evaluated the 9 remaining months in the program and explained the projects of the municipality. Seçer said that Metro, where they will hit the first digging in 2020, is not just a transportation project, but a big project that will transform and change the city. Seçer emphasized that they will be advertised as drivers for buses to be purchased shortly and they want to buy mainly from women.
Vahap Seçer, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, emphasized that they attach importance to women's employment as a municipality and said:
“We give priority to women in recruitment. Previously, purchases were made with the joint work of the Parks and Gardens Directorate and the Environmental Protection Directorate. We have recruited 105 employees, all of whom are women. Cleaning was noticed on the streets of Mersin. Because women clean. There is no torpedo there, no political references are sought. Of all our female citizens who said, 'I really work, I can do this job', we received those who were interviewed and whose conditions were suitable. I am also very happy with them. Health to your hands. I love them too. Let them keep our city clean, that's what I want from them. We provide 155 more jobs. They were interviewed.
Purchases will begin in the coming days. Done interviews. Names will be announced. We will have women do the cleaning of parks and gardens in our districts from Anamur to Tarsus. I want our bus drivers to be women. We recently recruited staff. We had 40 applications. Those who could not pass the exam and had insufficient steering wheel were eliminated, 33 bus drivers took it. Woman. In other words, if the exam takers do not have any legal or technical inadequacy, we recruited all of them. Now we're going to make a purchase again. Again, predominantly female drivers. We need 100 buses. We want to create a more comfortable and convenient public transportation environment for the people of Mersin. 73 of these were purchased. The tender took place on January 3rd. The tender has been concluded. We will get 100 new drivers for the new bus. If our women are respected, most of them will be women. We care about women's cooperatives. We established the women's cooperative. They do important and valuable work. The main purpose here is to transform women's handicraft production into economic value, especially in rural areas. This is extremely important. This takes care of several issues at once. The woman gains self-confidence, she stands on her own feet, contributes to the family budget. These are extremely important.”
Metro is a modernization project
President Seçer, who also gave information about the Metro project, which was tendered in the past days, said, “Public transportation is important. Metro means not just a public transportation project. In a sense, it is a project that transforms the city. It can be thought of as a social project, or it can be thought of as a civilization project. Because the modern city means the development of the rate of the modern city in every sense. The first phase is between east-west and between Mezitli Station. Then the second and third phases will be done. When we arrived, the previous administration had a project, but we did not find that project appropriate. We did some work on it. We will continue with these new projects. At the moment, we have entered the tender for the first phase, the 13.4 km underground rail system," he said.
