Istanbul Earthquake Workshop Starts Tomorrow

The International Earthquake Workshop, organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality with the aim of making Istanbul a disaster-resistant city, starts tomorrow. The opening speech was made by the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Ekrem İmamoğluThe effects of a possible earthquake to be experienced in the city and solution proposals will be discussed in detail in the workshop to be held by . The workshop will be held on 2-3 December at the Istanbul Congress Center.

The “Istanbul Earthquake Workshop” organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, where national and international stakeholders will come together, will start tomorrow. The two-day workshop will focus on Istanbul's problems, solutions and project suggestions for all possible disasters, especially earthquakes.

IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluIn the Workshop, which will start with the opening speech of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, there will be 700 representatives from IMM's managers related to earthquake and urban transformation, national and international academicians, relevant ministries, governorship, institutes, non-governmental organizations, foundations, associations, professional groups in different disciplines and sectors. More than a hundred participants will gather. 

ÇALIŞTAY AT ISTANBUL CONGRESS CENTER

The workshop aims to analyze problems that prevent Istanbul from becoming resistant to a potentially devastating earthquake and other natural disasters, and to develop solutions and project suggestions.

After the opening speech of İmamoğlu, the Workshop It will start with the speech of Marco Bohnhoff titled “The Meaning of North Anatolian Fault for Seismotectonic Condition and Earthquake Hazard”.

During the workshop, 6 thematic titles determined according to the principles announced in the 'Sendai Framework Plan', which the United Nations Disaster Risk Center (UNDRR) also takes into account, will be discussed:

• Disaster Risk Management
• Emergency Management,
• Disaster Risk Analysis,
• Enhancing Disaster Risk Financing Capacity / Disaster economy,
• Urban / Spatial Planning, Design, Renovation, Development
• Climate Change Adaptation with Conservation of Ecosystem and Natural Resources

Representatives from the United Nations, Japan, USA, Germany, Italy and France will be making presentations on various topics during the workshop at the Istanbul Congress Center.
