As a result of the joint efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for meeting the increasing passenger demand to the existing Eastern Express, providing better service and increasing domestic tourism, a touristic Eastern Expedition was launched between Ankara and Kars.
Touristic Eastern Express departed for the first time at 19.55 after the ceremony held at the historical Ankara Station.
In his speech at the ceremony, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that they revised the 2023 tourism targets and aimed to diversify the tourism by spreading to all provinces in order to reach the target. Stating that the Touristic Eastern Express is one of the projects in this context, Minister Ersoy continued his words as follows:
“As the Ministry, we wanted to diversify tourism and expand it in 81 provinces. There are many famous touristic train services in many parts of the world. This project was developed in order to ensure that not only Kars stops at 50 points, but also at 3 points on departure and 2 points on return, to make full use of tourism not only of Kars but also the cities and districts in the intermediate points.
Our train passengers will have the opportunity to visit these places in detail, with the tours organized by the regional agencies and tour operators, during long stay periods, they will catch gastronomy and find shopping opportunities. ”
Minister Ersoy underlined that this will contribute greatly to the development of tourism and added, “Our aim is to gain this to a foreign tourist after a certain period of time, since it is a complete tourism express. Our goal is to ensure that this journey, which is popular with local tourists, is also popular among foreign tourists and tour operators over time. In other words, to make it an expedition that serves domestic and foreign tourists. ” he spoke.

TCDD General Manager Ali İhsan Uygun also said that with the support of the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the government, the railways have been growing and developing with the railway priority transport policies implemented since 2003.
Indicating that the contribution of railways to tourism has gained a new dimension in recent years due to the development of the sector, Uygun said, “In addition to high-speed trains, the demands for our comfortable conventional passenger trains are increasing with the changing tourism phenomenon in our country. The Eastern Express, which runs between Ankara and Kars, which is one of the best routes in the world, is one of them. Uygun said that the new train has the comfort of a hotel, stating that it will present the beauties of all cities and towns on the Ankara-Kars route during the course of the Touristic East Express.
Following the speeches, Minister Ersoy and other participants signed the sign with the "Touristic Eastern Express" sign. Minister Ersoy also gave a gift to the passenger who bought the first ticket at the ceremony. The Touristic East Express was then sent off to its first flight.

The train takes Erzincan, Ilic and Erzurum from Ankara to Kars so that passengers can visit historical and touristic places; On the way from Kars to Ankara, it will wait for a while at Divriği and Bostankaya stations of Sivas.

The train, which consists of a whole sleeper train, will be able to serve up to 120 passengers. The ticket price is 1 only if one person is traveling in 400 room, and two persons are determined as 250 TL per person.
