Alstom to Supply APS Power System to Istanbul Tram

Alstom will provide the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality with a completely ground-fed APS power system and will be installed on the new Eminönü-Alibeyköy (Haliç) line, and the ten-kilometer-long line will be completely uncovered.

Alstom will design and supply continuous traction power transmission system, spare parts and equipment that will be under two years warranty for all fleet of 30 trams. In the APS system, the energy to the trolley is provided by segmented and ground level power supply rails. The active segments are activated only when the tramway vehicle completely occupies the safety of pedestrians and other road users. Electric energy is taken under the tramway by means of current collector shoes placed in the middle bogie. The APS assists in maintaining the environmental beauty of the city while at the same time guaranteeing the same performance as the catenary system. Alstom has long 60 years operating in Turkey, Istanbul metro and trams have provided tools. Alstom signed a contract in 2011 to provide signaling system to 328 km-long Eskişehir-Kütahya-Balıkesir regional line.
