Four hours from Berlin to Munich

The new train line between Berlin and Munich will allow you to travel between two cities at the 4 hour. The project cost 10 billion euros.

The new high-speed train line built between Berlin and Munich in Germany was opened with a special service on Friday and a ceremony held at the Berlin Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). Taking the train from Berlin's Südkreuz Train Station, Prime Minister Angela attended the ceremony held at the Central Station. In his speech at the ceremony, Merkel said that the high-speed train line that was put into service was “extraordinarily efficient and competitive compared to air and land transportation”.

The new 600 mileage between Berlin and Munich will take four hours instead of six, thanks to the new high-speed train. The speed of the train will be 300 per hour. Newly opened or even regular scheduled flights will start on Sunday.

The project decision was taken in 1991

In his speech at the ceremony, German Transport Minister Christian Schmidt said, "We have come to the end of the marathon we started in 1991". The project, which was accepted by the German federal government in 1991, aimed to improve the transportation between the north and south of the country and the east and west. The first construction of the project started in 1996.

Richard Lutz, General Manager of Deutsche Bahn, the German railway company, stated that “a new era has begun in the history of railways in Germany” and that approximately 17 million people will benefit from this new line.
