Developments in Oman National Railway Network Project

Developments in Oman National Railway Network Project: Oman Rail President John Lesniewski stated that the National Railway Network Project of the Sultanate of Oman is to be launched in 2018 and the first segment is planned to be completed in 2020. Within the scope of the project, whose objectives and framework have been determined again, it is among the information that the country has the priority to transport mineral and crude oil production to the ports of Duqm and Sohar through lines to be established. However, it is currently unclear which segment will start construction first.
It was previously announced that the line, which will form the first segment of the project, which includes connections with other countries in the region, will be completed in 2018 from Sohar Port to Buraimi Province, and it was learned that 207 consortiums, including 2 companies from our country, were left to the final elimination in the tender for the said 3 km railway. However, there was an uncertainty over whether the project would continue after the declines in crude oil prices and especially after the United Arab Emirates railway company Etihad Rail stopped the tender process for the Oman-United Arab Emirates railway connection.
Although the said explanation indicates that the project will continue at least in Oman, the sensations received by our consultancy suggest that the return of the tender documents for the applications for the previous tender process will be started soon.
