Traffic congestion in Alsancak will be solved in a few weeks

The traffic congestion in Alsancak will be solved in a few weeks: A temporary solution has been found for the traffic congestion that has been experienced for years due to the narrowing of the road at the entrance of the city center Alsancak in Izmir. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will demolish the garden wall belonging to TCDD and the road between Vahap Özaltay Square and Alsancak Station will be two departures and arrivals. The Preservation Board has finally delivered the long-awaited approval.
The scalpel, which has been awaited for years, is finally hit on the road that narrows “like a funnel” between Vahap Özaltay Square and Alsancak Station on Atatürk Street in İzmir. St. John's Anglican destroyed the wall of the Izmir Municipality who Ihsan Alyanak church Church from the walls of belonging to the TCDD building between 1973 and 1980 during the opening of the road, so it gave a note to the British Government of Turkey. The road opened played an important role in the entrance to the city in those years. However, especially for the last 10 years, two lanes of traffic from Talatpaşa Boulevard, two from Şair Eşref Boulevard and one from Ziya Gökalp Boulevard have been stuck in one lane between the Church and TCDD garden wall after Vahap Özaltay Square. The fact that five lanes fall into one lane made Alsancak traffic a nightmare, especially in the evening and morning hours. As a workaround, it was shown that the garden of the building belonging to HNV should be pulled inside and the road used as two lanes opposite each other.
Tüne project was prepared
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has also started preliminary studies to construct a 550-meter-long underground tunnel that will connect the road to Vahap Özaltay Maydanı and Liman Street to match the Konak tram for a permanent solution. The technical team made preliminary project preparation. For the underground tunnel, the project will be carried out soon. It is expected that the tunnel project, where the Alsancak Station will be left to the tram, bicycle path and pedestrians, and the traffic will take place underground, will be a solution to the traffic congestion. However, the preparation and production of the project will not be completed before 2-3 years.
TCDD made the lease protocol
While Izmir residents were waiting for the underground tunnel project to take place as soon as possible, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality knocked on the door of TCDD once again for the road expansion permission, which has not been approved for years due to the registration of TCDD buildings. The negotiations were concluded positively and TCDD prepared a project for the retraction of the garden walls in order to eliminate the narrowing that caused the traffic congestion in Vahap Özaltay Square. TCDD 3. Regional Directorate agreed with the terms of demolishing the wall and paying rent for the area to be used as a road. The first annual lease payment of 32 thousand 858 TL was made to TCDD.
Board agreed
The Metropolitan Municipality applied to the Izmir Number 25 Cultural Heritage Preservation Board for the approval of the project, as they are historical buildings where the Immovable Cultural and Natural Heritage High Board was registered on January 1985, 1 with the consent of TCDD. With the decision taken on February 11, the Board decided to extend the garden wall by retracting the garden wall within the scope of the road and pavement arrangement project between Atatürk Caddesi Sait Altınordu Square and Vahap Özaltay Square, prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department, on the condition that the wall should be rebuilt with the same height and technique. found it suitable. The approval of the Protection Board, which previously rejected the requests on this matter, paved the way for the elimination of a big problem with a small study.
Traffic flow will be overrated
The Metropolitan Municipality has started preparations to implement the project. TCDD gave information to the 3rd District and Izmir Police Traffic Inspection Branch Directorate. The teams will break down the wall in two or three days and give another lane to the road, with the work they will do in a few weeks when there is no traffic at night. The garden wall will be rebuilt 2.5 meters back. Thus, the trouble experienced due to the fact that the lane towards the Harbor becomes one, will disappear. The congestion at the exit from the city center due to the intersections and traffic lights in front of Vahap Özaltay, Sait Altınordu Square and TMO silos will be overcome after the completion of the underground tunnel.
