TCDD Halkalı Kapıkule Railway Line Project Public Participation Meetings will be held on 09-10 September 2015. Planned to be constructed by TCDD General Directorate Halkalı Preparatory works for Kapıkule Railway Line Project are continuing.

Within the scope of the project, Istanbul Halkalı Starting from the station and ending at Edirne Kapıkule Station, the railway line with an electric, signaling system, double line and 229 km / h design speed will be realized at approximately 200 km.

The corridor where the project is located is also a sub-component of the TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia / Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor) project, which envisages the revival of the Silk Road project. Istanbul-Ankara High Speed ​​Train Project will form a unity with Ankara-Sivas High Speed ​​Train Project and Sivas - Kars High Speed ​​Train Project. The first studies for the project were initiated in 2008 within the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM), and the feasibility study of a route that passes north of the existing line and has a design speed of 250 km / hour, and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) decision was taken. However, in the later stages, as a result of the comments received by the credit institutions in the feasibility study within the scope of the loan negotiations, the need to update the feasibility study, to examine the traffic demand study and different alternative routes arose. The feasibility study was updated in 2014 by the Department of European Union Investments of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications (UDHB).

Halkalı Kapıkule Railway Line Project

Halkalı - Kapikule Railway line passes through Istanbul, Tekirdag, Kirklareli and Edirne provinces respectively and ends at Kapikule Customs Station. The railway line is connected to the Bulgarian border. The economic life of the project is foreseen as 30 years. As a result of maintenance and repair work, this usage period can be extended further. Total investment amount 2 billion 750 million pounds calculated as the project Halkalı - The part between Ispartakule station will be designed and constructed by TCDD's own resources. Ispartakule - Çerkezköy The necessary funding for the part between the national funds, will be provided. Çerkezköy - The part between Kapıkule is planned to be realized with a European Union grant.

Halkalı - The EIA report prepared by Grontmij Mühendislik for the Kapıkule Railway Project was submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Related to the subject, a Public Participation Meeting will be held on September 09 - 10, 2015.
