38.5 Million Euro Signature for New Wagons of Izmir Subway: 17 signed a loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the 85 million portion of the purchase cost.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality signed a loan purchase contract for 85 train sets with 17 wagons to be tendered in December in order to meet the increasing needs in the ever-growing metro system with its expanding system and increasing number of passengers. The contract, which includes 38.5 million Euros of the cost of the train sets, was signed by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu and Jean Patrick Marquet, Director of Municipal Infrastructure Finance, EBDR (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development).

Speaking at the signing ceremony, where EBDR Operation Leader Fatih Türkmenoğlu and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary Pervin Şenel Genç, Deputy Secretary General Raif Canbek, Fügen Selvitopu, Aysel Özkan and Buğra Gökçe, Municipality 1st Legal Advisor Canan Mut and unit managers were also present. Recalling that when new passenger ships came to İzmir for a loan contract, they returned with beautiful memories, saying, “We are here again today. Our partnership and cooperation is getting stronger. We are ready to cooperate with other projects in the future. We would like to thank the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality team for their efficient and fast work. ”

Stating that they learned that the Metropolitan Municipality has a “Solid Waste Plant” Project within the projects to be carried out in the city, Marquet expressed his wishes “We would like to work together in that project”.

Underlining his satisfaction with hosting the EBDR delegation in İzmir, Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu thanked the EBRD officials for their support. Explaining the difficult process they have experienced for the location of the solid waste facility, Mayor Kocaoğlu said, “We had space problems for our solid waste facility and we are trying to overcome it. He remained the only one of our biggest projects in terms of environment. Our other environmental projects are continuing. ”

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality plans to cover the remaining cost of 38.5 wagons from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the French Development Agency (AFD), Ing Bank (under the MIGA Guarantee) and the municipal budget, in addition to the 85 million Euro loan from the EBDR. 'Preliminary Finance Authorization Letter' contracts were signed on June 2,85, 3 for these loans, which will be taken at a fixed interest rate of Eburibor + 15, with a total maturity of 16 years with a 2014-year principal non-refundable.

The tender will be held on 17 December.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which started the tender process without signing loan agreements as a result of the negotiations with the creditor institutions, will hold a tender for the purchase of 17 train sets with 2014 wagons on 85 December 17. With the new sets to be purchased as part of the tender open to national and international investors and the next 10 new wagons, the total number of wagons in the Izmir Metro fleet will double and reach 172. After the tender is concluded and the contract is signed, all trains will be delivered in 26 months.
Currently, 350 thousand passengers are transported per day in İzmir Metro and 280 thousand per day in İZBAN. This figure corresponds to 30 percent of the total number of passengers in public transportation.
