Establishing an Ecological Bridge for Wild Animals

Establishing an Ecological Bridge for Wild Animals on the Highways: The Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs establishes ecological bridges to wild animals on the highways under the General Directorate of Nature Protection and National Parks Project (KARAYAP).
Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP) General Directorate of Highways and Wild Animals Deaths Project (KARAYAP) under the road to wild animals to establish ecological bridges. The project will prevent the loss of life and property caused by traffic accidents caused by wildlife.
Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs DKMP General Directorate has taken another important step to protect and sustain wildlife. The work to be carried out within the scope of KARAYAP will determine the points where wildlife related accidents occur frequently, and the number of ecological bridges currently in our country will be increased and wildlife will be protected.
HIGHWAYS WILL BE REPLACED TO DIVING LIFE AREAS OF WILD LIFE
The road and rail network is rapidly expanding to meet the needs that arise as a result of the economic and industrial developments in our country. However, the developments have a negative impact on wildlife. In particular, the highway and divided roads from the transport lines lead to the division of wildlife habitats and forests. The resulting divisions lead to the formation of smaller plant and animal populations independent of each other, and the species becoming more susceptible to depletion. In addition, roads passing through the living areas of wild animals increase traffic accidents, wildlife is damaged and also causes loss of life and property.
THE ECOLOGICAL BARRIER WILL BE CREATED
Ecological barriers (overpass, underpass) will be formed in sensitive areas determined by KARAYAP which is realized by General Directorate of DKMP. In addition, the General Directorate of Highways will be informed and new roads and railroads will be constructed so that ecological bridges will be built in the light of this data.
Within the scope of the KARAYAP project, when a wild animal died as a result of a vehicle crash, the General Directorate of DKMP will record the scene and time on the road map, Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Prof.Dr. Veysel Eroğlu said, “With the project, local and national media will also be followed and data will be included on the map. Thus, with this map, an asset-absence survey study that provides information about wildlife will be made ”.
