Contract Signed with STM for Izmir Cable Car

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has signed a contract with STM, which won the tender for the renovation of the cable car facilities of 6. STM will complete the construction of Balçova cable car facilities within a week.

At the end of the legal traffic in the renewal tender of the ropeway facilities of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which turned into a snake story, the ropeway project finally started. The tender, which was held in February 2012 and won by STM System Teleferik company with the lowest bid of 10 million 225 thousand TL, was canceled by the KİK at the end of the evaluation regarding the objections. While the municipality was making a new tender, STM company, which won the tender, filed a lawsuit against the decision of the KİK. Ankara 14th Administrative Court suspended the execution of the decision of the GCC. Thereupon, KİK sent a letter to the Municipality to make a contract with the STM firm. However, on the other hand, he appealed the court decision. Ankara Regional Administrative Court, which evaluated the objection of the KİK, overturned the stay of execution decision.

This time, KİK sent a letter to the Municipality to cancel the tender. STM, on the other hand, submitted the expert report it had prepared to the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers to the court. Ankara 14th Administrative Court, taking into account the information in this report, annulled the decision of the KİK to cancel the tender.

After the Public Procurement Authority canceled the decision of the Ankara 14th Administrative Court on the cancellation of the ropeway tender, the way for the ropeway project was opened. Following the official notification of the Metropolitan Municipality, the construction contract was signed with the STM firm, which won the tender, on 1 March. The site will be delivered to the company within a week. Balçova Cable Car facilities, which were closed in 2007 upon the decay report prepared by the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, will be renewed in accordance with EU standards. The facility will consist of 8 or 12 person cabins. It will have a carrying capacity of 1200 people per hour. The cabins between the lower and upper stations will travel 900 meters.
