Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Binali Yıldırım, was also a guest
In this part of the "The Gateway" program, prepared by one of the most remarkable programmers of the last period, Becky Anderson, where the most important and busiest transportation hubs of the world are visited, the Bosphorus, which is of great importance globally, will be examined because it connects Asia and Europe. The whole world is eagerly followed by the Marmaray Project, shared the details about the team that came to Turkey for the program, Transport, Shipping and Communications Minister Binali Yildirim also met with the Marmaray Project, as well as the authorities.
Speaking to the program regarding the importance of the Bosphorus and the Marmaray Project, Minister Binali Yıldırım said, “Considering the fact that 87 percent of the trade and transportation is provided by sea, we can better understand the importance of Istanbul in maritime trade and transportation. In addition to our local traffic, which includes 400 small boats carrying more than 2 people a day, large container ships and crude oil tankers are also crossing from north to south. So we are overloaded on the Bosphorus. With Marmaray, which will be put into service at the end of 500, 2013 thousand people will pass from the Asian continent to the European continent per day. This is one of our solutions that will make local traffic safer and more comfortable. " says.
Minister Yıldırım answered Anderson's questions about the difficulties encountered during the construction of the Marmaray Project as follows: “We have completed most of the difficult part. The challenge now is that we have to preserve the historical part. The tunnel passes under an extremely historical area. For this reason, every piece of land removed is examined by archaeologists and we continue the construction of the tunnel only when they give their approval. We stop when they tell us to stop. That's why we lost five years, but we are not unhappy, because we contributed to revealing the history of the city. Before Marmaray, the history of Istanbul was known as 2500 years. When we started the archaeological excavations after the Marmaray Project, we realized that the history of the city goes back 8500 years ... "
