Yusuf Sünbül: When I Was Young

It was the beginning of the 1978 year, yet I was at the age of 18 and had not even completed my first year in the profession. In the evening in the 17.30 waters, while waiting for our train in Basmane Station, my master of the time, M. Ali Kütükçeken (ears of ears, I remember with respect, petite type, then 25 was old), we were standing next to the locomotive. An old gentleman and a lady came to us.

- Boy, where are the engineers of this train?

- Come on, uncle, we are the engineers of this train.

- Son, don't be kidding, you're too young, you're a kid!

- Yes uncle, we are machinists.

- Come on lady, let's go to the bus station, the trains are in the hands of the boy!
As we learned later, our uncle, a retired railroad worker years ago, must have come to the conclusion that we do not fit the type of old mechanic he is accustomed to, he gave up riding the Izmir Express we will take. The smile he always remembers this moment, Turkey is perhaps a bittersweet as I am proud of the first young machinist.
