TCDD is in a continuous work for both renewing existing lines and adding new lines. In particular, it replaces the existing old rail technology and switches to a new and more up-to-date system of high-speed trains. High-speed trains provide this conversion.
TCDD started laying high-speed train lines in 2003. The first line is 533 km of its total length. It is the Istanbul-Eskişehir-Ankara line that is expected to be. The Ankara-Eskişehir part of the line currently in use consists of 245 km and the journey time is 95 minutes. Trial flights started on April 23, 2007, and commercial flights on May 13, 2009. The Eskişehir-Istanbul part of the line is expected to be completed in 2009. When the line is connected with Marmaray in 2012, the world's first intercontinental daily train service will be realized.
Some of the planned high-speed train lines are:
- Ankara - Afyon - Uşak - İzmir (Bifurcated from Ankara-Konya line in Kocahacılı)
- Ankara - Kayseri (To be forked from the Ankara-Sivas line in Yerköy)
- Istanbul - Bursa (to be forked from the Ankara-Istanbul line in Osmaneli)
- Ankara - Bursa (To be forked from Ankara-Istanbul line in İnönü)
- Istanbul - Edirne - Kapikule (border of Bulgaria)
- Konya - Mersin - Tarsus - Adana
- Eskisehir - Afyon - Antalya
- Sivas - Erzincan - Erzurum - Kars
- Samsun - Ankara
- Ankara - Konya - Antalya
- Izmir - Afyon - Konya
- Kayseri - Konya - Antalya
There are ports in Mersin. Moving to the interior is also done. Rail system is available in the port and active. Let's fix it
