The Spanish infrastructure company ADİF won the tender for Alstom, Indra and Constructora San Jose Consortium for the supply and installation of security and SCADA systems for 49,7 tunnels on the new 12 km Pajares line between Spain's La Robla and Pola de Lena. . Having signed the contract for a total of 53 million Euros, the Consensus also includes the 25 km Pajares Tunnel, which forms part of the future León-Asturias high-speed line!
The contract covers ventilation and extinguishing systems, fire doors, emergency radio and gas detection systems. Alstom will provide power supplies and its systems will be used in integration with ADIF's SCADA system.
About Pajares Tunnel
The Pajares Railway Tunnel is the twin pair of 24.667 m long railway tunnels built under the Puerto de Pajares pass in the Cantabrian Mountains of Spain. Tunnels will be on the AVE line from VALLADOLID to GIJ ,N, but can also be used by freight trains in the future. The tunnels are currently affected by the major water leak that delays its completion. The tunnels are currently expected to be completed in 2020 and opened to passenger traffic by 2021. Initially, although both tunnels were only suitable for standard-caliber high-speed railways, the plans changed the middle structure to the Iberian caliber double-caliber for cargo use.
Eventually, 25 kV AC electrification will be needed, but it is not clear whether this system will be installed at the opening date.
